Aquarium Update

In my most recent viewing of my microaquarium i noticed i dramatic change in the variety of protists i saw. No longer did i just see little one celled protists darting around, but bigger life forms seemed to have taken over. Snake like protists and rotifers were abundant. The water level seemed to drop a little and it seemed the plants had grown some. I also noticed a dramatic rise in non motile protists.

First Observation

After receiving our microaquariums we filled them with water samples and various forms of plant material. We then had the opportunity to view our aquariums under magnification. I noticed many microorganisms, but the most extraordinary was the organism I found which appeared to be attached to the moss in the aquarium. After some searching on the internet I believe Ive found that it is called a "stalked ciliate" (pictured above). This
organism seemed to straighten out then shoot back towards the moss. I saw other various circular organisms floating around near these "stalked ciliate" but am unable to identify them.
